The 5 Best Sequels of All Time

5. Terminator: Judgement Day

Terminator: Judgment Day serves as a perfect sequel to an already great movie, with good casting, an awesome soundtrack, and great action, this film earns its place at 4th best sequel.

Positive:

• Great action

• Badass cast

• Awesome soundtrack

Negative:

• unnecessary/corny dialogue

• plot holes

4. Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 could arguably be one of the best Marvel movies, with its great effects, for the year it was made, it’s amazing score, and it’s incredible characters. This film also has great pacing, and an interesting story that dives into what really makes a hero and why we need them, showing us a side of Spider-Man that we haven’t seen. It’s iconic score only adds to the thrill factor of this iconic movie. This truly is a Sam Rami Classic.

Positives:

• Great Story

• good Pacing

• iconic Score

Negatives:

• the party seen is a bit tedious and unnecessary

• some lines are a bit corny

3. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

The Empire Strikes back has a pretty high floor as far as ratings go. It’s already apart of one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time. The film serves as a great bridge between A New Hope, our introduction to the Star Wars universe, and The Return of the Jedi, the closing of it. It’s one of the greats as far as sequels go but just not the greatest.

Positives:

  • Hoth scene is legendary

  • The first duel of Luke and Vader.

  • Lando has ice in his veins.

Negatives:

  • Weird Han and Leia a chemistry.

  • Some VERY corny lines.

2. The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight, directed by Christopher Nolan, is widely regarded as one of the best movies of all time. Batman Begins serves as a perfect precursor to this movie and lobs Nolan up for a 360 dunk in this almost perfect sequel. Heath Ledger (the Joker) has one of the creepiest performances and the preparation for the role nearly drove him insane.* The cinematography combined with a flawless plot really sends this film into competition with some of the best pieces ever created.

Positives:

  • Christian Bale’s iconic raspy voice

  • Costume design is off the charts

  • Morgan Freeman makes some crazy weapons

Negatives:

  • The third movie of the trilogy is pretty garbage

*Winning almost ten awards for the film is a solid consolation.

1. The Godfather Part II

This is the best movie of all time which by default makes it the best sequel. I’ve never met a person that doesn’t think the flashback scenes to the Don’s youth aren’t one of the best parts of this franchise. Later, we get to see the passing of the torch as Michael takes control of the family and starts to go off the deep end. “Don’t ever take sides with anyone against the family,” is one of the iciest quotes to this day.

Positives:

  • Michel is ruthless

  • flashback scenes to Italia

  • Marlon Brando’s voice should be in a museum somewhere

  • Goated
